Equivalence in two-stage DEA approaches
نویسندگان
چکیده
Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a linear programming problem approach for evaluating the relative efficiency of peer decision making units (DMUs) that have multiple inputs and outputs. DMUs can have a two-stage structure where all the outputs from the first stage are the only inputs to the second stage, in addition to the inputs to the first stage and the outputs from the second stage. The outputs from the first stage to the second stage are called intermediate measures. This paper examines relations and equivalence between two existing DEA approaches that address measuring the performance of two-stage processes. 2007 Published by Elsevier B.V.

An Integrated Approach for Measuring Performance of Network structure: Case study on power plants
Data envelopment analysis (DEA) and balanced scorecard (BSC) are two well-known approaches for measuring performance of decision making units (DMUs). BSC is especially applied with quality measures, whereas, when the quantity measures are used to evaluate, DEA is more appropriate. In the real-world, DMUs usually have complex structures such as network structures. One of the well-known network s...
متن کاملTwo-Stage Network DEA with Undesirable Outputs: An Application in the Air Transportation in the Spain
In this paper, two non-linear technologies are proposed based on weak disposability definitions: weak disposability with non-uniform abatement factors and new weak disposability. Both technologies are applied to Spanish airport systems and the existing technologies are modified. To remove the computational complexity of non-linear approaches, the linearization methods are proposed. Then, in ord...
متن کاملRecovery of oil products in Iran by substitution and production effects: A two-stage approach in the form of a general equivalence model
In the energy economics literature, one of the most important approaches to managing energy demand is to improve energy efficiency, which is associated with a concept called a rebound effect. The rebound effect causes the energy saving (due to improved efficiency) to be less than expected. Considering the importance of using oil products in the Iranian economy, the present paper tries to track ...
متن کاملIntegration of Balanced Scorecard and Three- stage Data Envelopment Analysis Approaches
The Balanced Scorecard (BSC) provides an outlook of an organization’s general performance; it integrates financial perspective with other performance aspects, like learning and growth, internal processes, and customer perspectives. The momentous issue, in implementation of BSC, is the proper selection of measures. The main objective of this paper is to introduce a novel approach in an attempt t...
متن کاملSensitivity Analysis in Two-Stage DEA
Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a method for measuring the efficiency of peer decision making units (DMUs) which uses a set of inputs to produce a set of outputs. In some cases, DMUs have a two-stage structure, in which the first stage utilizes inputs to produce outputs used as the inputs of the second stage to produce final outputs. One important issue in two-stage DEA is the sensitivity of...
